Protection Magic for Lammas
All magickal paths teach protection magick. That is because it is so important and useful. BY working protection spells you can ensure that your home, property and the people and animals in your life are protected. Some protection spells are complicated and are built up over time using a series of rituals, while others are quite simple and can be cast in a few minutes.
Here are some Lammas Protection Rituals that you can use to Protect your home and family.
Onion Braid
One thing that you can do is make and Onion Braid protection charm to have in your home. This will provide protection to all people who live in your house. Lammas is a great time to harvest your onions as while other crops will wilt and be struggling in the muggy Summer heat, Onions will be thriving in the cool dark soil.
To harvest your onions gently pull on the tops or use a spade. Be very careful that if you use a spade you do not damage the onion skin. Gently brush off the dirt and hang them in a sunny spot to dry and cure. If you want to speed this process you can lay them on a screen in a well ventilated area. Use a soft brush to remove any excess dirt. Do not remove any of the papery covering of the onion skin and trim the stalks to about 4 – 6 inches.
The best time to work some onion protection magick is on the August full moon – also called the Corn Moon.
When the full moon is out begin making your onion braid. Braiding is actually a very relaxing and peaceful way to spend and evening. In the past they use to braid onions to prepare them for winter storage.
Take 3 feet of twine and select three well formed dried onions to start the braid. Tie the three of them together at the base of their stems with the twine and begin braiding using the stems. It is really not a hard as it sounds and it will get easier with practise. Braid untill you have made several crosses.
As you continue braiding, add additional onion working each stem into the existing stems. As you keep braiding continue to add onions at even intervals. Each onion stem will join the original unit and allow the braid to continue. No one stem will run the whole length of the braid.
Add as many onions as you want until you get the desired length. As you braid focus on your intent. Onions are linked to protection and safety. Think about what it is that you would like this onion braid to protect. Pour those intentions into the onion.
If you wish you can recite an incantation to link them to what it is that you wish to protect. Feel free to make your own, but here are some examples of incantations.
For protection of a home:
This charm for my home I have made,
Keep negative energy away from me,
As I will, so it shall be.
For protection of a person:
As layers surround this onoin skin
Layers shall sourround from without and in
Surround (name) and protect them from harm
I fuse this energy with this onion charm.
or
Layers of safety for those within,
Layers to make all harm stay out,
Keep (name) safe, without a doubt.
Once you have received the desired length take the remaining twine and tie off the stems leaving short Finish off the braid by braiding the ends of the remaining stems and tying them off with a bit of twine leaving short ends for a fringe at the top. Form a loop from the end of the twine for hanging. Store onions braids in a cool dark area until ready for use.
The Protection Power of Iron
Iron has very powerful protection properties. One great way to protect your house is to find iron pieces such as old nails, iron filings or railroad spikes and pound them into the group around the perimeter of your property. This will keep our unwanted guests. If you place an iron dagger under your pillow it will protect you while you sleep.

Great crystals to use at Lammas are Hematite, Calcite, Citrine, Tigers Eye, Fossilized wood, dark yellow and any brown jasper, banded agates, greenstone, mookaite, Botswana agate, titanium aura, and fossils
Oils to use at Lammas
There are many protection oils that you can anoint yourself with at Lammas. Oils and herbs with protective properties are violet, thistly, honeysuckle and fennel.
Recipe for Cleansing Water
There is an herb sacred to the Druids that is knows as Vervain. Though it is associated with the Summer Solstice it is very potent around Lammas.
In Hoodoo Vervain is used to make Van-Van Oil, which is a blend of oil and vervain. It is an oil used to provide magical protection and cleanse and area of Evil spirits. Also the scent of vervain is a well known aphrodisiac.
For Lammas you can brew up a batch of vervain water which can he used to cleanse yourself, your house your tool, your altar anything you need to cleanse. Here is the recipe.
Items you require…
1 / 2 C fresh vervain leaves
2 C. boiling water
Bring the water to a boil and then pour it over the vervain leaves in a bowl. Lets the leaves steep for half an hour and then strain. Let cool and water can now be used for cleansing and purification.
